Mission Statement

Launceston Medical Centre is committed to providing high quality GP services in a well organised and friendly setting.

This practice aims to provide high quality health care available under the NHS to all its patients with a well trained and motivated primary health care team.

The practice recognises the special expertise of many of its members and uses these skills for the benefit of the patients.

The practice values

• Patients' medical conditions will be managed according to standards defined by their profession.

• Patients will be treated with courtesy and consideration by all our staff.

• Patients will receive appropriate information about their condition and treatment.

• The practice will endeavour to educate patients on health care matters whenever possible.

• Partners, nurses and staff will be encouraged to pursue appropriate further training.

• Partners will pursue the interests of patients in respect of the Primary Care Group and local or regional planning issues.

• The practice will undertake professional training as a service to the profession.

The patients values

• NHS treatment should be readily available locally when this is feasible.

• Protocols for the management of common chronic conditions will be followed when appropriate.

• Patients will be provided with information regarding the services available within the practice via the practice leaflet and the internet.

• Patients with problems which are considered urgent will be seen the same day.

The patients responsibilities

• Patients should attend their appointments at the arranged time. If this is not possible they should inform the surgery as soon as possible.

• Patients are responsible for their own health, and the health of their children, and should co-operate with the practice in endeavouring to keep them healthy. We give you professional help and advice - please act on it!

• Requests for help and advice for non-urgent matters should be made during surgery hours only.

• Home visits should only be requested for patients who are seriously ill or housebound. It is important to bear in mind that most medical problems are dealt with more effectively in the clinical setting of a well equipped surgery or hospital.

• Patients should realise that home visits are made at the doctor's discretion.

• Requests for visits and advice at night should only be made for true emergencies. Many problems can be solved by advice alone; therefore patients should not always expect a prescription.

• We ask that patients treat the staff and doctors with courtesy and respect. Bear in mind that reception staff have a very difficult job to do, juggling with limited resources and without detailed medical knowledge. They are trying to do their best for you.

Repeat Prescriptions

If your Doctor prescribes medication, which is long term, you may be permitted to order a supply without seeing your Doctor. This will normally be for a set length of time after which you will need to make an appointment. Ordering repeat medication can be done in the following ways:

  • In writing to the Medical Centre, delivered by hand, post, or fax. Use your prescription counterfoil (to the right of the prescription) or the slips provided.
  • In writing to a chemist in Launceston, Alliance Boots, Day Lewis, and Tesco. Requests will be delivered to us twice daily. If you normally get your medication from a chemist in Launceston your request may be handed into them.
  • Via the online repeat prescription form which can be found on the website. Some requests will be referred back to your Doctor for approval, we therefore ask for at least 3 working days (preferably longer if possible) to process all prescriptions. If we do not dispense your medication, prescriptions may be delivered to your choice of Launceston chemist rather than collected from the Medical Centre.

Zero Tolerance

Our clinical and administrative staff are here to help you, please treat them with respect at all times. Any instance of inappropriate behaviour or language will be reported to both your Doctor and the Practice Manager and could result in immediate removal from our practice list.

Complaints

If you wish you can use the contact form on this website to contact us regarding any issues you may have.

Launceston Medical Centre welcomes comments, compliments, concerns and complaints. We always aim to provide the best care we can. However, we know that sometimes things can go wrong. When this happens we believe that is it often most effective to sort problems out quickly and informally. Please talk to any member of staff if you have a problem or concern.

If you wish to make a formal complaint, please contact the Complaints Manager, Andrew Yardley preferably in writing (including email). Please find enclosed a complaints pack to help you with this process, which is downloadable (below). Alternatively, you can ask for a copy of our complaints pack in reception.
